The Monterrey International Film Festival opened on October 15 its call for entries for its edition that will take place August 19 to 26, 2021.

Those interested in participating in the seventeenth edition can submit online their work produced after January 1, 2019.

Narce Ruiz, Programming Director, said that the festival is aware of the challenges facing filmmakers due to the Covid pandemic but is hopeful that the number of registered films will continue and, as every year, the participants’ work will be surprising.

‘We hope to continue the number of registrations of the previous years, which is about 1,500 entries. We know this is a challenge because of the pandemic, so we widened the eligibility to films made in 2019, 2020, and 2021,’ Ruiz indicated.

She highlighted the opportunity of an early register, especially for the Nuevo León category.

‘The call for entries has three periods. In the early phase, entry fees are lower, and in the case of Nuevo León, there are no fees. We, therefore, invite filmmakers to register as soon as possible,’ she indicated.

The available categories are: International – Feature Films (fiction, documentary, and animation), and Short Films (fiction, documentary, and animation); Mexican – Feature Films (fiction and documentary), Short Films (fiction, documentary, and animation); Nuevo León – Feature Films and Short Films; and KinoStart – Mexican Student Short Films.

The Official Selection announcement for the festival’s seventeenth edition will be on July 30, 2021.
