The 2018 edition of the Monterrey International Film Festival, to be held from August 16th to 23rd, presented its new image for the 14th edition, as well as the Call for Entries to filmmakers around the world.

Juan Manuel González, director and founder of FIC Monterrey, pointed out that the visual image will be its flag for this edition, which includes elements from cinema, as well as the guest country: the camera, the reel, the film and the Lumière brothers silhouette, with a little bit of Gauguin, but also, a bit of PopArt.

“It’s a festive image, organic, it highlights France’s presence as our guest country, but it also celebrates cinema itself, its relationship with human beings.”, he stated at the press conference.

About the call for entries, González pointed out that it will be open for Nuevo León and Mexican filmmakers, as well as everyone around the world, from February 8th and until May 18th.

It is important to note that, as in every edition, the Festival will receive short and feature films without any theme restriction.

Every year, the FIC Monterrey gives filmmakers from Nuevo León a special space, so the films produced in the state compete in the Official Selection as part of the Mexican category, and at the same time, they have its own category, and they compete for the award to Best Nuevo León Feature Film and Best Nuevo León Short Film.

For these two categories, Filmorent will give two awards: a bonus for equipment rent valued in over $20,000 MXN, that includes one day of rent of production equipment: camera, sound, lighting, for the Best Nuevo León Feature and Short Film, respectively.

Like every year, all the winners will take home the official award of the Monterrey International Film Festival, the Cabrito de Plata, as well as the awards the sponsors provide.
